Little me, Big dreams

Can you relate?

I don’t know about you, but sometimes I don’t know if I should be inspired or discouraged by the things I see online.

Most of the time I’m fed, inspired, excited and blown away by designers I follow online, but their ideas, their creativity, their solutions, the beauty they’re able to create in spaces. But sometimes - just sometimes, I feel completely discouraged.

Recently I found myself having a chat with the incredible Lindsey Brooke - honestly I was surprised that she spared the time for me!

(I mean - can we just take a moment to sigh at the beauty?!)

She said one thing that really hit me and I’ve returned to many many times since…

“There is space for all of us”.

Sometimes it feels ridiculous that I am in direct competition with some of these huge giants in the industry, and that there’s no hope of success like I see in others.

Can you relate?

I was so grateful to sit with Lindsey, just for a few minutes, because it was the first time I saw a realistic timeline, a business model that was not based on Studio McGee, or Amber Lewis, but rather something that is achievable.
Even if we all dream of being Shae or Amber!

For me, this was a HUGE relief, because suddenly I wasn’t set up for failure.
Let’s face it. If all businesses were the size of Amber interiors or Studio McGee - there woudln’t be space for all of us.
And there is space for all of us.

This conversation breathed a lot of life into my vision, as I have the added bonus (you’re catching me on a good day - coz usually I don’t see this as a bonus!) of being outside of the US - so I’m actually NOT in ‘competition’ with any of these incredible heroes.

So I encourage you - don’t feel threatened by others.
Don’t feel squeezed out of the picture, or hopeless that you’ll never ‘arrive’ - there is a place for you.
For your ideas, your business, your vision.

Be inspired, encouraged, driven, pushed and cheered on by those who are just a little bit ahead of you in the journey!

I’m so grateful to Lindsey for taking just a few minutes to chat with me, and it made me think about how much of a great community the interior design world is, when we take the time to encourage each other.

And who wouldn’t be encouraged and inspired by these incredible designs!?
